All The Feels
I am finally back in So-Cal after visiting Orlando and Toronto over the Christmas break. I have been traveling a lot lately and it's beginning to catch up with me. My body is telling me to slow down and get some rest. Self care is definitely important.
On another note, lately I have witnessed some iconic moments in history that are giving me life in the new year. Watching Michelle Obama’s last speech as the first lady was bittersweet. I don't want her to leave, but she deserves this break after giving her last eight years to the American people. In her final address as FLOTUS she urged young people to get involved and to educate themselves. I was deeply moved, and her words helped me really think about what I could do to help my fellowmen.
Then this past Sunday night, while on my flight back to LA, I found out Tracee Ellis Ross won her first Golden Globe award! I was moved to tears. I have been a fan of Tracee since Girlfriends. Not only is she the daughter of my all-time favorite, Diana Ross, but she is funny, poised, stylish and intelligent. I truly look up to her and I am so proud of her.
The last iconic moment of the week that totally had me feeling like throwing plates against my wall and bawling (a little dramatic, I know), was President Barack Obama’s farewell speech. This man undoubtedly has a way with words! I remember when Barack was elected for the first time and I wept. As you can tell, I'm a cry baby. It meant so much for black Americans and America at large, but it was also meaningful for every person around the world to see that the impossible is attainable! He will truly be missed.
