Summer Picks for 2016

Summer is finally here! We've planned a lot of things for the next few months that you will definitely want to be the first to know about so make sure you subscribe to stay informed. Let's kick off the season with a short list of random, interesting, but useful things I've come across this year so far.

Number 1: Tech

I was recently introduced to an amazingly useful app that is nothing short of life changing. If you’re someone that frequents

magazines then this app is for you. There have been numerous instances where I’ve been reading a magazine and I see

an item I’m interested in buying. Some magazines like Cosmopolitan usually list where an item is from, but that’s where it stops. Normally you’ll have to put the magazine down and hit the web in search of the individual items you’re interested in. The folks of mobiliBuy have solved that problem. This app allows you to scan any page of Cosmo and literally within seconds the ability to purchase the items on that page are at your fingertips. The app also has other great promotions such as $1 deals each month on cosmetics and a 12-month subscription of Cosmopolitan for way less than the cost of even one magazine at the regular retail price of $3.99.

                          Scan Me!

                         Scan Me!

The mobiliBuy team was gracious enough to make one of my photos actually scannable! Try it out to see how it works, then pick up the July copy of Cosmopolitan featuring the beautiful Zendaya Coleman and scan to your heart's content. Available on iTunes and Google Play.

Number 2: Beauty

For the longest time, I had a mild aversion to wearing blush. I never thought I needed them, so I never dedicated the time or effort to seek out shades that would work for me. A while back, I happened upon an old Youtube video by makeup artist Wayne Goss. He featured a collection of highly pigmented blushes from the brand “La Femme.” These have become my all time favorite blushes! I will definitely be buying more because I seriously don’t think you can go wrong with any of the colors. Another great thing about then is that they retail for only $3.50 each! Definitely a good buy.

*Tip: These blushes are seriously pigmented and a little goes a long way. I used to use a blush brush but that would deposit too much color on my face. In this case, I switched to an inexpensive stippling brush since it picks up just enough color without overdoing it.

Number 3: Health & Wellness

Life can get busy sometimes, but above all our health and well-being must come first. I found an app called "Maven" that connects you to an OB/GYN, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Dietitian, Physical Therapist, and Mental Health Specialist; all while not even having to put your phone down. Boasting as the first digital clinic for women, you can schedule an audio or video appointment with any of the available health care team members. I’ve personally been able to “meet” with a dietitian offering me tips on healthier eating habits, and a physical therapist tailoring a very comprehensive exercise plan to suit my fitness goals. Need advice on your diet? Questions about reproductive health, exercise, or just general health care questions? Instead of asking Google, only to find out you’re dying from *insert any random disease here* download the app today and get your first appointment free with a legit specialist using my promo code: RachaelVIP

*App available for iPhone

Number 4: Food

The student life is one we are all too familiar with. It can get crazy busy and overwhelming at times and there are days when I’m too tired to even think about, “What’s for dinner?” I came up with this super simple recipe that literally requires 6 ingredients, and came our pretty tasty if I do say so myself.

You will need:

-Rotini pasta

-Baby bella mushrooms

-Beyond Meat Grilled Chicken  (Purchase from Walmart or Target)

-Black pepper (or any seasoning you prefer)

-Olive oil

-Caesar salad dressing

  1. For the pasta, place a pot of water on the stove to boil. Once the water is boiling, prep the pasta according to the instructions on the box
  2. While the water is boiling, chop the mushrooms and the Vegan Grilled Chicken to the desired size you want
  3. Sauté the mushrooms and “chicken” in olive oil for about 3-5 minutes until thoroughly cooked.
  4. Add the sautéed mix to the drained pasta
  5. Pour on the Cesar dressing and add the black pepper or any seasonings you like

Enjoy by itself or eat with a green salad.

Cheers! And see you all next Wednesday
