DENIM X DENIM

It is said that the color black never goes out of style. While this is 100 percent true, we can't ignore the timeless wardrobe staple that is denim. This functional fabric dates back to the mid 19th century, probably making it the oldest and most versatile fashion fixture in recent history.

Denim became a wardrobe essential for the working woman during World War II. While men were fighting overseas, women were left to replace men by taking on less "traditional" roles in the workforce. Cultural icons like Rosie the Riveter, depicted in a blue denim shirt and her trademark red bandana, inspired women to join the workforce in factories and shipyards. The denim-clad Rosie the Riveter became a symbol of feminism and economic empowerment among women.

Denim on denim is trending for Summer 2016. It's a great opportunity to mix hues, textures, and tailoring to create a look that expresses your unique style.

4 Tips when wearing denim on denim:

1. Pair with different textures/fabrics, such as lace. Lace can add a soft, feminine edge to an outfit.

2. Mix different washes of denim. Never and I seriously mean NEVER, go for the matchy-matchy look. Experiment with different shades (denim washes) wearing dark on bottom, and a light wash on top.

3. Incorporate embellishments and color accents. Metallics and jewel tones pair very well with denim.

4. Denim fabrics come in a variety of weights and a good idea is to wear a heavier, more structured denim with a lighter weight to balance the outfit.

Cheers, and see you all next Wednesday!
